Another cracking turnout at Teesside, with players battling gale force winds to take their place at the table. 120 squeezed into the cardroom with a long queue outside politely waiting for an unfortunate player to get knocked out and a seat to become available.
When play was paused for a meal break (fantastic tex-mex buffet!) the screen showed that 130 players had entered in total, creating an impressive £26,000 prizepool with a first prize of £7800.
If lasts night’s tournament was an action-fest then tonight promised to be even more so. At midnight only 20 players remained. The approaching bubble was clearly a temptation though and play slowed as all players hoped that they would become one of the lucky 14 to make a profit for the evening.
The bubble final burst just after 1.30am when Lee Danaher’s Ace King managed to stay ahead of his opponents Ace Six.
The local players clearly meant business with 7 regular Teesside players hitting the cash.
The final table began just after 2.30 am. Chip leader was Jason Wong with 183,000 chips closely followed by Ian Hayes with 174,000. It was still any ones game though with only one double up separating the short stacks from the chip leaders.
The play was fast and furious, and after 45 minutes we had lost 4 players. The remaining five struck a deal to flatten the prize pool, ensuring that everyone took home at least £3500.
In the end it came down to two Teessiders battling it out head to head. John Bousfield had the chip lead and in the final hand his Ace Queen held up against Mick Eglintine’s Ace Jack. John takes home £5500 and a seat in the main event.
