£200+£20 NLHE Freeze-Out, 19th June 2008

 

Tonight’s £200 event kicked off with a 156 runners – another record field for a one-day event - in another buoyant night of tournament Hold’em. A few early causalities hit the felt and in turn wasn’t going to be a night of glory for a number of big names, while the likes of Julian ‘Yo-Yo’ Thew ploughed along steadily with the field reduced to 50 runners approaching midnight. The cash games began as soon as tables freed up.

At 2.20am the bubble burst and after over an hour of play the final table started around 3.30am with last night’s winner Rod Buckman still in the mix.

By 4.40am the heavy blinds had reduced the field to four and after a further 45 minutes of grueling shorthanded play only Ian “Yan” Holwill and Tom Carpenter remained.

The heads-up battle lasted 15 minutes and the tournament climaxed at 5.45am with an all-in raise from Ian holding KJ and a call from Tom with K9. The J on the turn sealed the victory for Ian who won £10,540 plus his £500+50 buy-in to the Main Event.
