The ‘Championship Event’ event rolled into its second starting day, with a field made up of many of the UK’s finest poker players, and a good number of online qualifiers and satellite winners swelling the numbers to 99.
Surinder Sunar, Keith Hawkins, Roland de Wolfe, Marty Smyth and reigning champ Joe Beevers rubbed shoulders with Jeff Kimber, Sam Trickett and Paul Foltyn and more young players that have emerged in the growing number of high quality tournaments across the country... British poker really is in excellent shape.
Despite a larger field than day 1a, players were dropping at a faster rate and by the close, just 35 remained, with many young gun scalped by an older hand. With more chips in play and fewer runners, the leaders had well of 100,000 chips by the close. Ali Mallu led the way (116k), followed by James Dempsey (115k) and Kevin Parks (114k).
Moving into day 2, the remaining 73 players will reconvene, all with the intention, hope or dream of making it to the televised final table on Sunday.
