Byrom then treated the table to a commentary of what Maudlin might have. He ruled out 23, said the flopped flush would be sick, and then tried to figure out whether Maudlin had a flush draw, an ace, both, or nothing. Maudlin kept a stony silence. Eventually Byrom decided Maudlin had made a move and called with A 6. He was right – Maudlin had Q J – but he still had to dodge a heart. Turn and river were 2 A and Byrom doubled up, making a big dent in Maudlin’s stack.
