Birchall sucks out and rubs down

A huge pot has just played out on table 1. With 20k in the middle and Q T 9 on the board, Luke Abolins bet 7k. Mustafa Sepanji called and Gregory Garrett raised to 37k. Lee Birchall, who had everyone else covered, thought for a while and then asked Garrett how much he had behind. The answer was 90k. Birchall then pushed all-in. Abolins and Sepanji withdrew and Garrett carefully considered his options before calling with T 9 for bottom two pair. This was comfortably ahead of Birchall’s A 3. The turn A gave Birchall extra outs but he didn’t need them since the river 4 made teh flush he was seeking. Birchall and his hangers-on started shouting and screaming before Birchall trained his sights on the hapless Garrett, berating him for calling and informing him he was a fool and had just cost himself at least £1,000 in prize money. It seemed not to matter to Birchall’s argument that he was a 2/1 underdog in the hand, but there are many players to whom odds matter little. Garrett left the table in dignified silence.
