Bristol GBPT Grand Final - £2,500 Main Event (Day 1b)

Day 1b started with 57 players seated, rounding the total field off nicely to 100, with a £250,000 prize pool, meaning a handsome £87,500 for our eventual winner.

Notable faces among the runners today were Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari, Jennifer Tilly and Robert Williamson III, as well as Europe’s number one Ram Vaswani, WPT winner Surinder Sunar and GBPT Festival winners Steve Holden (Nottingham) and Lee Richardson (Leeds). Olympic gold medallist Darren Campbell, who cashed in Leeds, also joined the fray hoping for another successful day at the felt.

Williamson was the unfortunate first casualty after just an hours play when his all-in with Aces-full-of-Jacks was beaten by a delighted Paul Gourlay’s quads. He was followed just 30  minutes later by Vaswani. Soon after, Holden took a large pot off Jennifer Tilly, however just a few hours of steady but profitable play later, she was back in front, doubling courtesy of Albert Sapiano who earlier had taken out Darren Cambell. However it wasn’t all good news for the ‘Unabombshell’ as her partner, Phil ‘The Unabomber’ Laak fell to Neil Channing’s QQ just 15 minutes later.

Soon after Lee Richardson fell in a big 4-handed pot taken down by Jim Reid with a set of 8s.

Having spent the day stealing pots and blinds, Esfandiari finally doubled-through to leave him with an average stack and in reasonable shape for day 2.

Play ended at midnight at the end of the 8th level, with chip counts looking as follows:
