Bristol GBPT Grand Final - £2,500 Main Event (Day 1a)
The GBPT ‘Championship’ Main Event has officially started! This mammoth 4-day £2,500+£50 freeze-out will finally crown the Great British Poker Champion 2007, after a six-stop tour of the country.
42 runners sat down for the 2pm start of day1a to stake their claim to the title, an estimated first prize of over £80,000, and the all-important bonus seat at the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic in December.
Among the familiar faces seated were 2006 WSOP Main Event winner Jamie Gold; Joe Beevers and Barny Boatman of the Hendon Mob; EPT/ WPT winner Roland de Wolfe, as well as GBPT Festival winners Eddie Gaines (Edinburgh), Colin Pearson (Teesside) and Pete Singleton (Bournemouth), and GBPT Leaderboard winner John Bousfield.
The action started with Colin Pearson falling first, to Mark Stewart’s full-house and we have our first double-up. Jamie Gold took an early hit for half his chips when he ran into Chris Royle’s Aces, and although he recovered somewhat, he fell to Joe Beever’s AQ just before the end of the fourth level.
Roland de Wolfe doubled up early on but lost half his chips soon after when Pete Singleton did the same. Eddie Gaines fell just on 9pm, leaving Pete the only Festival winner remaining from the day1a starters.
Day 1a ended at the end of level 8, with 20 of the 43 starters remaining. Day 1b starts tomorrow at 2pm sharp.
