With the countdown to the Edinburgh GBPT Festival finally up, we're all raring to get underway. The stage is perfectly set for every budding poker player to show if they’ve got what it takes to rise to the top as Britain’s finest!
There’s certainly a definite sense of expectation and excitement as the GBPT lifts off in one of the nation’s premier cardrooms – the sumptuous Gala Maybury Casino – especially as the £100, £200 and £500 Main Event tourneys are all fully sold out. Nevertheless, it’s just a constant stream of phone calls coming into the Maybury that notches more and more names onto the reserve lists.
At 8pm, our GBPT dealers managed to limber up for a 'Festival warm up' with a £20 Hold'em game comprising of 68 runners (originally intended as a satellite for the sold-out Main Event). Maybe small beer of course compared to the heavier-weight days that will follow, and amounts to a £4,400 game seeing 123 re-buys and 29 add-ons. Final nine made it to the prize money, with top two agreeing to split their spoils equally.
Now the real McCoy is just tantalisingly around the corner…it’s time to bring it all on! Keep posted for all the GBPT news and views throughout the coming days.
