£500+£50 Main Event
Day 4
Our players sat down at 2.30pm for another sell-out main event and included a number of previous GBPT main event champions looking to influence positions on the leaderboard as well as a number of tour regulars looking to break into the GBPT spotlight! Spiced into the mix was Jon ‘Skalie’ Kalmar, fresh from his 5th place in this year’s WSOP main event, bracelet winner Willie Tann and Joe Beevers from the Mob.
At the close of the main event’s first day, many were left commenting on an impressive display from Olympic gold medallist athlete Darren Campbell, who deservedly built a formidable stack as runaway chip leader on 141,200. The field were down to 14 to return on Sunday with the following chip counts recorded as follows:

Day 5
With nobody wanting to comeback without any fruits to show for their labour, all 14 did a deal to share out the money so it paid down to 14th. Everyone then got down to playing for a coveted spot on the impressive TV table. After several hands where chipleader Darren Campbell had looked sensibly settled refusing to get drawn in, he got stung on a pot that cost him 100K of his stack to Mark Angioy. He recovered somewhat before crashing out spectacularly to quad Jacks to take 11th spot.
Just after 6pm we reached our final 8 players for the TV table which included no fewer than five Teessiders! The final table seating positions and starting chip counts were as follows:
| Seat | Name | Total Chips |
|---|
1 | Willie Tann | 84,400 |
2 | Mark Angioy | 91,600 |
3 | John Bousfield | 120,800 |
4 | Richard Howe | 159,500 |
5 | M Eglintine | 161,300 |
6 | L Blackburn | 231,400 |
7 | Simon Grace | 116,600 |
8 | Lee Richardson | 98,600 |
The action started at 8.45pm and continued for over 3 hours of relatively cagey play until Willie Tann succumbed to a dwindling stack when Lee Richardson full house 9s over 4s saw him exit in 8th spot.
The blinds continued to rise and it was a good 1hr 15 before Michael Eglinitine became Lee’s 2nd victim. The following half hour saw a further four players beaten as Richardson used his impressive stack to good effect leaving just Sunderland’s Richard Howe and Bradford’s Lee Richardson to battle heads up for the title and the coveted £2500 Grand Final seat.
Chip lead interchanged from one to the other including one memorable hand where Lee with trip Aces were beaten by a 7 on the river to give Richard a full house - 7s full of Aces, plus a big chip lead.
Finally after 2hr 10, Lee’s all-in with Ace Jack was called by Richard whose King Jack was no good when a board of K73TQ gave Lee a straight and the title!
